Gulf Bank Sponsors Kuwait’s First “Model United Nations Conference”
Kuwait – 16 November, 2009: Gulf Bank recently hosted a signing ceremony between the Bank and the American University of Kuwait, announcing that it will be the platinum sponsor of the AUK’s upcoming “Model United Nations Conference” (MUN), being held from 19th – 21st November 2009. The conference will be Under the Patronage of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, with an opening ceremony at the university’s premises.
Michel Accad, CEO & CGM of Gulf Bank and Dr. Marina Tolmacheva, President of AUK, were present at the signing ceremony, marking an ongoing relationship between the Bank and the University and revealing the Bank’s Commitment to education once again.
The MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy. Throughout the entire event, participants will employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking and technical writing.
Stating the importance of the event, Michel Accad, Gulf Bank’s CEO & CGM said: “The upcoming MUN conference will be the first of its kind in Kuwait and Gulf Bank is delighted to be supporting such an event. We always aim at assisting in promoting and developing the educational system within Kuwaiti society. It is a great opportunity for students to learn new and vital skills that will enable them to realize the vitality of communication.”
AUK President - Marina Tolmacheva also said: “Model United Nations conference is an important step in developing our student’s global consciousness and regional linkages. Gulf Bank deserves praise for their support of educational and civic causes.”
The three day conference will include different dialogue sessions that will occur simultaneously. The Gulf Cooperation Council will help participants acquire essential skills to become future diplomats. The General Assembly will raise awareness on various global issues such as peace and human rights. The Security Council is charged with informing participants about maintaining international peace and security.
Gulf Bank’s sponsorship of the event is part of its ongoing commitment to promoting a more prosperous Kuwait.
