Gulf Bank Sponsors National Day at the American University of Kuwait
Kuwait, 15 March 2010: Gulf Bank recently sponsored a cultural event that marked Kuwait’s National Day at the American University of Kuwait on February 23rd. The event, organized by the student led organization, Patriots Club, included different cultural activities that shed light on Kuwait’s culture and heritage.
Various organizations, such as Kuwait National Museum (Bait Al Sadu), Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah, Center of Research and Studies on Kuwait, Saud Al-Babtain Charitable Foundation for Heritage & Culture and the Kuwait House of National Works were part of the National Day celebrations at the University.
The event began with an opening speech that marked Kuwait’s Liberation and Independence days and included a live performance by the ‘Bilal Al-Shami Band’ who entertained the attendees with national as well as cultural music. The traditional Kuwaiti dance (Al Ardha) was furthermore part of the celebrations.
Twelve booths were set up throughout the campus that included Kuwaiti themed items, as well as a tent that served Arabic coffee, sweets and a traditional lunch. Several activities took place during the event which included question and answer games that highlighted Kuwait’s National day, camel riding activities, henna tattoos, and a poetry reading book fair that was presented by the Arab Literature Club.
The Patriot Club is AUK’s official student’s organization that aims to enrich the morals of patriotism and the principles of democracy amongst the students. Previously, the Club organized different events such as the Anti-Segregation seminar and The Constitution.
