Canyoning

Rediscover your sense of adventure - and what it's like to be soaked to the skin! Canyoning is a truly all-round adventure experience, following a natural watercourse through a precipitous canyon. To start off with, you'll have a safety briefing with your instructor and get kitted out with the right equipment. Then after a short walk to the top of the beautiful Allt' a Bhealaich Gorge, you'll follow the natural water course down through the gorge, descending waterfalls, sliding down natural water flumes, scrambling down gorges and jumping into deep, clear rock pools. In some sections, you'll use harnesses and ropes to get down, all safely controlled by your instructor. This is a challenging, exciting and very physical experience and you might get a few bumps along the way, but there's a path running along the length of the canyon, so no part of the descent is compulsory - you can always take the path instead.

On arrival, you will be kitted out with freshly laundered combat coveralls, full face protection paintball goggles and a top of the range semi-automatic paintball gun with an impressive 700 paintballs. You will be given a full safety briefing by an experienced marshal before commencing play. This is a real chance to shake off your day-to-day responsibilities and rekindle your spirit of adventure. There are between eight and ten games included in your full day experience, played out within differently themed areas and zones, set up to test your skills of strategy, leadership, navigation and teamwork. Lunch is also included - you'll need the fuel to keep going for the afternoon.

Introduction To Mountain Biking

You'll end up tired, saddle sore and covered in mud. You'll also learn loads of new skills and have an exhilarating adventure over a brilliant rough terrain course. Sounds like fun? This experience is designed for beginners, so don't worry if you've never tried mountain biking before - you're in safe hands. The aim of the day is to get you totally comfortable over rough terrain, and the focus of the coaching will be around developing balancing skills, effective braking, descending without fear and ascending without pushing (oh yes - there's going to be a lot of hills involved). You'll also get coaching on navigation and bike maintenance. You'll be kitted out with a helmet (whether you don tight-fitting lycra is up to you). By the end of the day you'll probably be aching in muscles you never knew you had, but you'll have had loads of fun and you'll know why mountain biking is one of the country's fastest-growing sports.

Snowboarding

Let's be honest: nobody wants to hit the slopes for the first time looking like a complete novice, even if they are one. So get some practice in before going on holiday with a snowboarding lesson at SnowDome, the UK's top indoor real snow center. You'll start off with a safety briefing and an introduction to all the equipment (which is all included). Then you'll try out some basic moves and find out whether you're a 'regular foot' or 'goofy foot' - that is, whether your leading leg is your left or your right. You'll get to grips with the right stance for balance, and then move on to gaining control of the toe edge and heel edge of the board and going down the slope zigzagging from left to right and back again - the 'falling leaf' maneuver. Your qualified instructor will be on hand throughout, to give you loads of help and to pick you up when you topple over.

Body Flying Experience

Wind tunnels have been used for years to test the aerodynamics of cars. Then some bright spark came up with the idea of flipping one upright and jumping into the airflow - and body flying was born. The wind tunnel is a 193 km/h wall of air, easily strong enough to support your weight, so that you can experience freefall without the need to jump out of a plane. You'll start off with a safety briefing from your instructor before being kitted out with your specialist flight suit. Then step into the wind tunnel with your instructor, where you'll be lifted into the air for four incredible 60-second sessions of body flying. As a comparison, during a skydive from 3,048 meters, you would experience around 30 seconds of freefall. If you're lucky, your instructor will jump on the flow and show you some astonishing freefall acrobatics. Your flying session will end with a debrief, and you'll also get an e-photo of your experience, plus either a DVD or a glossy A4 photo of your flight to take home.

Rock Climbing

This is the perfect way to try out rock climbing, even if you're currently a complete stranger to crampons. Using a state-of-the-art indoor climbing wall, you'll learn the ropes (pun intended) without any chance of your climb being ruined by downpours or midge attacks. First off you'll be briefed on safety and basic climbing techniques - all necessary stuff, though it won't make much sense while your feet are still firmly on the ground. So then it's time to put theory into practice on the instruction bay. You'll learn the basics of climbing and abseiling, including how to tie in, belay, and the moves you need to scale the aretes, slabs, overhangs and grooves on your way to the top - all with constant encouragement and supervision from your expert instructors. You're in for a challenging, exciting and fun time - and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve. All the climbing equipment is included, and after your climb you'll receive a photograph and a certificate to take home.

Aqua Sphereing for One

You're on your own for this roll downhill in a Sphere, with a few buckets full of water to slide about in. After a full safety briefing you'll climb inside the Sphere - a giant PVC ball with a 1.8 meter capsule inside - which is rolled down a hill. Reach speeds of up to 48 km/h as you slosh and tumble around in the Sphere (it's a bit like a human washing machine). This ultimate adrenaline junkie ride is an experience you'll never forget - exciting, fast-paced and mind-blowing. Prepare to be thrilled!

Coasteering

Most of us live in nice, safe houses, work in nice, safe offices, and our biggest adrenaline rush of the day comes from jumping onto the train just as the doors are closing. So rediscover your sense of adventure amid spectacular scenery with this amazing coasteering experience. You'll climb rocks, jump off cliffs, swim in the sea and do plenty of scrambling about. After a full safety briefing and getting kitted out, you'll set off in a small team with your instructor to traverse along the bottom of the cliffs, figuring out the best route together and trying to dodge the waves. Where you can, you'll climb along the rocks, but when the going's too steep it's time to jump in and swim! Lunch will be available, or you can bring your own. After lunch, just in case you haven't had enough of the great outdoors, it's time to try either kayaking, surfing or climbing/abseiling. You might get a few bumps along the way, but this is an inspiring, challenging and thrilling day.

Built in 1911, the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge is the perfect setting for the first ever bridge jump in the UK and is one of only three operating transporter bridges in the world. On arrival you will be weighed and kitted out with your back up harness, ready for the biggest climb of your life - 210 steps to the top of the bridge. Once at the top you'll walk 48 meters along to the jump zone. Soak up the fabulous views as you get kitted out and made ready for your jump. Then after a few words of encouragement, and a few very deep breaths, it's 1... 2... 3... bungee! You'll plummet towards the River Tees (try to keep your eyes open!) before the bungee rope reaches its return point and you ping back skywards. After a few more bounces, you'll be gently lowered into a waiting speedboat. Once back on terra firma, you can pick up your certificate.

Survival Weekend

21st century living is all about comfort and coziness - often our idea of adventure is ordering a different takeaway. But we were designed to be capable of much more! Leave the mod-cons at home and rediscover your survival instincts with a weekend in the wild. Say hello to your fellow survivors as you sort out equipment preparation and get some initial instruction. You'll then set off together across a 2.025 Square kilometer site on an awareness walk using a map and compass, with training in all sorts of survival techniques - learn about edible plants, survival medicine, firelighting, skinning food (oh yes, this is proper survival), food preparation, collecting water and navigation. You'll build your own shelter - make it a good one, you'll be spending the night in it - before preparing your meal and cooking it over an open fire. Then bed down in your shelter for the night in the wilderness. Learn more survival techniques on Sunday and enjoy a survival-style Sunday lunch to wrap up your weekend.

Quad biking is some of the best messiest fun you can have in the countryside. After a thorough safety briefing, you'll get kitted out in protective clothing and be introduced to your quad. To start off with, you'll be driving on level ground round a marked circuit while you get a feel for the quad. As you gain experience you'll be able to shift up a gear and soon you'll be power sliding round the turns like you were born on the bike. Then take off on a quad safari for a taste of what quad biking is really about, venturing across woodland tracks, through water pools and up and down steep slopes (subject to your driving ability) with your instructors keeping a close eye on you all the way. Your session will end with a debrief and the chance to get cleaned up. The bikes are usually Honda 250ESs - a utility machine with five forward gears operated by electric thumb shift - or Sportrax 90s - smaller, sports-tuned quads.

What's not to love about bungee? Climb 52 meters to the top of a crane, tie a bit of elastic round your ankles, and jump. Okay, it's a bit more sophisticated than that, but this is still an experience strictly for daredevils and adrenaline junkies. You'll start off being helped into the bungee harness (with thorough safety checks), before hopping in the crane lift and going up about 52 meters. Then after a few words of encouragement, and a few very deep breaths, it's 1... 2... 3... bungee!
