Gulf Bank Achieves LEED Platinum Certification for Sabah Al Ahmad Residential City Branch

Khaled Al Awadhi: The certification reflects Gulf Bank’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability across its facilities and operations

Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible banking, Gulf Bank has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification for its branch in Sabah Al Ahmad Residential City, marking another milestone in the Bank’s efforts to integrate sustainable practices across its operations.

Awarded through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), LEED Platinum represents the highest level of certification under one of the world’s most widely recognized green building rating systems. The achievement reflects Gulf Bank’s commitment to adopting international sustainability standards, improving resource efficiency, and minimizing the environmental impact of its facilities.

LEED certification evaluates buildings against a comprehensive set of environmental performance criteria, including energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable materials, responsible facility management, and the reduction of environmental impacts associated with building operations.

The achievement supports Gulf Bank’s Sustainability Strategy 2030, which places environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations at the heart of its business practices and operational priorities. Aligned with international best practices and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the strategy reflects the Bank’s ambition to create long-term value while contributing to a more sustainable future for Kuwait.

As part of this commitment, Gulf Bank continues to invest in modernizing its infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of its facilities through innovative solutions that promote the responsible use of natural resources and reduce environmental impact.

Commenting on the achievement, Eng. Khaled Abdulwahab Al Awadhi, Deputy General Manager of Facilities Management at Gulf Bank, said:

“Achieving LEED Platinum certification for our Sabah Al Ahmad Residential City branch is an important recognition of Gulf Bank’s ongoing efforts to advance environmental sustainability across our facilities. For us, sustainability is not a short-term initiative. It is an integral part of how we operate, make decisions, and plan for the future.”

He added:

“We are committed to adopting international best practices in facility management and building operations, while creating modern, comfortable, and efficient banking environments for our customers and employees. Our responsibility extends beyond providing quality banking services to ensuring that the spaces in which we operate contribute to conserving natural resources and reducing our environmental footprint. LEED standards provide a valuable framework for translating this commitment into measurable improvements.”

Al Awadhi emphasized that Gulf Bank continues to invest in modern technologies and systems designed to improve energy and water efficiency and enhance the overall environmental performance of its branches and operational facilities. These investments support the objectives of the Bank’s Sustainability Strategy 2030 and its vision for responsible, sustainable growth.

Building a More Sustainable Banking Environment

Beyond this certification, Gulf Bank continues to implement a comprehensive branch network modernization plan, incorporating international environmental and operational standards to improve building performance while enhancing the customer and employee experience.

The Bank is also undertaking carefully planned improvements to its headquarters, one of Kuwait’s distinguished historic buildings. These initiatives aim to preserve the building’s architectural and heritage value while improving its operational and environmental efficiency in line with international sustainability and facility management practices.

Al Awadhi concluded:

“Every improvement we make to our facilities is an investment in the future. This certification represents another important step in our sustainability journey, and we remain committed to extending green building practices across our facilities. Through these efforts, we aim to strengthen Gulf Bank’s role as a responsible financial institution and contribute meaningfully to Kuwait’s sustainable development.”

With sustainability increasingly embedded in its operations and long-term planning, Gulf Bank remains committed to creating banking environments that are more efficient, resource-conscious, and aligned with the evolving needs of its customers, employees, and the wider community.
