Gulf Bank Announces its Participation in Earth Hour 2009

Kuwait- 26 March 2009: Gulf Bank announced today that it will officially participate and support Earth Hour 2009, a global climate initiative created by the World Wildlife Fund.  Earth Hour aims to raise awareness of global warming and its impact on the world's environments.  All individuals, companies and organizations are invited to mark Earth Hour by taking simple steps to reduce energy use for one hour from 8:30 pm on Saturday March 28th.

Gulf Bank will play its part by switching off all unnecessary lights, lowering the A/C, and turning off non-essential electrical devices at its offices and branches, and by encouraging its staff and suppliers to do the same.

The historic event will see millions of people all over the world gathered in parks, streets, town squares and homes around the world to witness the lights going out on iconic landmarks and city skylines, while taking in the atmosphere of some truly unique Earth Hour events.  Gulf Bank is committed to promoting sustainable and responsible use of Kuwait's, and the world's, precious energy resources.

This campaign is further supported by the Ministry of Electricity and Water , which has committed to providing consumption statistics before, during and after the switch off, giving a clear picture of how much energy is saved simply by reducing unnecessary energy use.

Furthermore, the streets' lights department within the Ministry has also confirmed switching off two light bulbs per street, covering a length area of 11.6 Km, or 60%, of Arabian Gulf Street.  Kuwait Towers as well as the Liberation Tower will also go dark as they join other famous landmarks around the world to mark the largest climate initiative in history.
