What's a Datathon?
-
A Datathon is a fast-paced competitive event where participants gather to solve practical problems through the application of data science tools and techniques, by working together in teams to generate insights, visualizations and potential solutions.
-
Gulf Bank Datathon is in collaboration with American University of Kuwait and powered by Coded.
Who is it for?
-
We encourage everyone interested in data and analytics to join the Datathon! Learn something new, maybe even change your career in the process of learning how to navigate the tools used in the Datathon.
-
Skills are a plus but are not mandatory as Gulf Bank is giving free educational workshops in all tools used during the Datathon.
-
The only requirement to compete is to be above the age of 16.
Why Is Gulf Bank Hosting A Datathon?
-
Datathon adds value on multiple levels, it promotes innovation, builds our data community inside and outside the bank, helps us identify future data talents, and strengthens the bank’s reputation as a leader in digital transformation.
-
It will include educational workshops by Gulf Bank’s own industry experts and competitions to enhance participants’ skills, preparing them well for the competition day
-
This year, the workshops will be open to everyone to extend the benefit from Gulf bank.
Competition Tracks

Data Science Track
Unlock insights from real world data through predictive modeling, visualization, and analytics to solve complex challenges and drive smarter decisions.

Generative AI track
Create intelligent systems that generate text, images, and ideas, exploring the cutting edge of creativity powered by AI.

Data Engineering track
Powerful data pipelines and scalable architectures to collect, clean, and manage data efficiently for real time insights and innovation.
Participation Rules
-
Each team should consist of 3-4 members.
-
Each project must utilize the dataset provided for your track, and must demonstrate appropriate use of data science methods.
-
All work must be conducted by the team members. The team may ask provided mentors for guidance, but not for direct solutions.
-
We believe in the importance of respect for all ideas and opinions. Any form of harassment will result in exclusion from the datathon.
Learning Workshops
Remember, there’s no losing in Gulf Bank’s Datathon. You will either win or learn. Gulf Bank data experts will help you get ready for each challenge track through a hands-on learning workshop. You are encouraged to attend the workshop of your track, but you are more than welcome to attend any or all of the three workshops
• The workshops will be in AUK building G on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 6:00PM – 9:00PM.
Generative AI Lecture: Creating with Intelligence
By Dr. Haidar AlMohri
Discover how AI can generate content, ideas, and solutions in this session on Generative AI. We’ll cover the fundamentals behind models like GPT and diffusion networks and explore real-world applications from text and image generation to synthetic data creation. Participants will gain insights into how generative models are trained, evaluated, and responsibly deployed.
Data Science Lecture: From Data to Decisions
By Dr. Scott Pezanowski
Dive into the world of data-driven insights! This lecture will explore how to extract meaningful patterns from raw data using statistical analysis, machine learning, and visualization techniques. Participants will learn the end-to-end workflow of a data science project from data cleaning and feature engineering to building predictive models and communicating results effectively.
By Eng. Ali F. Hussain
Learn how to design, build, and optimize data pipelines that power analytics and AI. This lecture focuses on the backbone of data-driven systems covering data architecture, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and modern tools for scalable data management. Participants will understand how to ensure data quality, reliability, and performance in production environments.
